PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Delta provided mechanical engineering inspection, evaluation and final design services. The project consisted of six sites within the Cook County Forest Preserve and required the following work:
- Sand Ridge Nature Center
- Replacement of two existing forced air system furnaces and associated air conditioner compressors
- Dan Ryan Pavilion
- Addition of a humidifier to the existing forced air system
- Sagawau Environmental Learning Center
- Farmhouse: Replacement of one hot water radiator
- Garage: Replacement of one unit heater
- General Headquarters Computer Room
- Replacement of one Liebert unit
- Trailside Museum
- Replacement of two forced air system furnaces and associated air-cooled condensers
- Glen Grove Stables
- Addition of two gas fired unit heaters
Delta was responsible for three sites: Headquarters, Museum and Stables.
GENERAL HEADQUARTERS COMPUTER ROOM
Existing computer room air condition unit, air cooled condenser, and refrigerant piping was entirely replaced. The new 3-Ton Liebert AC unit has a capacity of 1,800 CFM.
TRAILSIDE MUSEUM
Two heating furnaces, a-coils, filters, humidifiers, associated air-cooled condensers, and refrigerant piping were entirely replaced. The two new Carrier furnaces have a combined heating output of 195,000 BTU/HR and cooling output of 8-Tons.
GLEN GROVE STABLES
Two new identical Reznor gas fired unit heaters were added with individual output of 166,000 BTU/HR. The new gas connections were tapped from an existing 2.5” above grade line. Roof penetrations were added for air intake and venting.
PROJECT CHALLENGES
At both the Trailside Museum and Glen Grove Stables, Delta engineers worked around the headroom and space limitations to make the equipment selection.
