PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Delta was part of the OAE Joint Venture team that designed the new south airfield Runway 10C-28C. In addition to the runway itself, extensive changes had to be made to airside infrastructure to accommodate this part of the airport expansion.
Delta provided both project coordination and design involved comprehensive civil design for pavements serving the proposed runway along, standalone pump station facility design and electrical lighting throughout.
Delta was responsible for the following major components of the runway addition:
ACCESS / SERVICE ROADS
Complete design for roads and parking lots:
- Temporary North Service Road
- FedEx Access Road
- Division St re-routing
- Airport Service Road
- United Employee Parking Lot
- Delta/NW Cargo Parking Lot
Design covered: alignments, plan and profile, grading, cross sections, pavement markings, MOT, fencing, signage, sidewalks, lot layout, storm sewer plan and profile, manholes, catch basins, and roadway / lot lighting.
SOUTH CARGO TUNNEL PUMP STATION & RETAINING WALL
Complete design of a 12’ diameter x 26’ deep, storm-water pumping station to dewater the South Cargo Tunnel using twin 50-HP, 2749 GPM pumps. Additional structures include an adjacent 9’x14′ rectangular valve vault and a 5’ diameter force main outfall structure. Cathodic protection was provide for the intake pipe and force main. Just south of the Cargo Tunnel at the intersection with the Airport Service Rd, Delta designed an 850’ long x 25’ high sheet pile retaining wall with tie-back anchorage which supports cargo parking lots.
UNITED CARGO APRON, FEDEX CARGO APRON AND TAXILANE ZH
Complete United Apron and partial FedEx Apron design which covered: demolition, removals, geometry; grading; cross sections; pavement jointing, elevation, and markings; storm sewers, underdrain, blast fencing, erosion control, and lighting. Delta also provided profile design for Taxilane ZH.
