PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Delta prepared traffic signal PS&E documents and ADA design work for the upgrade of seven existing intersections at various locations throughout Cook County.

TRAFFIC SIGNAL DESIGN

Delta assisted in field reconnaissance and inventory of the existing traffic signal equipment at the seven designated locations. In addition to creating final installation plans, Delta designed the temporary traffic signals on a closed-loop system for use during construction phase of permanent signals. Additional design included controller sequence, video detection mounting, and emergency vehicle preemption sequence.

Traffic signal modernization included replacement of the existing signals following CCDOTH guidelines at the following intersections:

• Euclid Avenue at Burning Bush Lane
• Euclid Avenue at Wheeling Road
• Greenwood Avenue at Normal Avenue
• Ridgeland Avenue at 98th Street
• 167th Street at 80th Avenue
• 103rd street at 76th Avenue
• 87th Street at 78th Avenue2,500,000 SF, five-story Consolidated Rental Car Facility (CONRAC)

Traffic signal plan sheets included installation, proposed cable, phasing diagram, pedestrian push button construction notes, vehicle detection notes, emergency vehicle preemption sequence, LED street name signs, grounding details, electric service requirements, and bill of materials.

ADA DESIGN

Delta designed removal and replacement of curbs, gutters, sidewalk, and detectable warnings for 16 quadrants at the following locations:

• Euclid Avenue at Burning Bush Lane
• Euclid Avenue at Wheeling Road
• Greenwood Avenue at Normal Avenue
• Ridgeland Avenue at 98th Street

Delta’s ADA plans addressed compliance needs for sidewalk ramps and the adjacent sidewalk using the base sheet information from survey and utility record data. Coordination between ADA and signal design facilitated accurate placement of poles and push button hardware.
