PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Delta provided engineering design and construction phase services for backup power modernization at Metra’s Consolidated Control Facility. The work included replacement of existing generator, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and exhaust ventilation.
PS&E design included existing room layout, demolition plans, new equipment layout, and construction phase drawings.
ELECTRICAL
The existing 600kW diesel generator was removed along with its fuel tanks,batteries, and related components. The new replacement is a 625kW natural gas generator. During construction, a temporary 600kW diesel generator provided backup power until installation of the new generator.
Other electrical work included new:
- UPS system with 300kW capacity
- Integrated Distribution Cabinet (IDC)
- Underground gas piping connections from the generator building to the main building
MECHANICAL
Mechanical plans redesigned the ductwork and muffler for compatibility with the new natural gas generator.
