PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Delta provided multidiscipline engineering services for the renovation of Johann W von Goethe Elementary School (Goethe). The school consists of the main building, built in the 1920’s, and the annex building added in 1982, comprising a total area of 31,932 SF. Located in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, Goethe houses grades PreK-8^th and close to 800 students.

This project required architectural and engineering renovation for multiple rooms throughout the main and annex buildings.  Delta provided design and construction administration services for the following:

MECHANICAL

• Removal and replacement of 15 unit-ventilators and associated thermostats in both floors of the annex building. New unit ventilators are 1,250 CFM.
• Narrative for cooling options for gymnasium
  • Thermostat with guard protection
  • AHU/RTU connections
  • Supply and return diffusers
• Added cooling for the gymnasium
  • New rooftop air handling and air condensing units (AHU/ACCU)
  • Associated supply and return air ducting
  • 525 CFM supply diffusers in gymnasium roof

FIRE PROTECTION & PLUMBING

Second floor ceiling of the main building designed for acoustical insulation. Due to this change, design necessitated removal and replacement of sprinkler lines in ten rooms under the gymnasium. Addition of pendant dry pipe sprinklers in six classrooms.

ELECTRICAL

• Removal and replacement of light fixtures, fixture selection, and photometric for:
• • Ten rooms in 2^nd floor of main building
  • Social room in the basement
• Design to incorporate:
  • Cleaning of all light fixtures in main building
  • Replacing approximately 50 light lenses on existing fixtures in main building
• Power distribution and panel for new rooftop AHU/ACCU
• Riser diagram and panel schedules
