PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Delta provided civil engineering Phase I design services for the CREATE GS9 grade separation project. Archer Avenue will be reconfigured to cross under two Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) tracks at this location.
Elimination of this at-grade crossing will reduce roadway congestion and improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians. Up to 18,000 vehicles and 260 CTA buses pass through the crossing on a daily basis. This “911 Critical Crossing” is a vital location for emergency services to access communities that have a high frequency of train movements or delays.
ADA RAMPS DESIGN
Delta provided Phase I ADA ramps design for 8 quadrants and 12 driveways on Archer Ave between intersections of S. Knox Ave and S. Kolmar Ave. This project location was complex, with limited right-of-way, and existing buildings located as close as 10 feet from the intersection.
Along with these tight clearances, Delta designed for both IDOT and CDOT ADA standards as Archer Ave is a designated state route, with Knox and Kolmar as Chicago streets.
