Delta structural engineers provided concept verification and PS&E design services for the I-90 EB CD Road over Higgins Creek (SN 535CD). This structure has the following features:
- Single 115’-0” span
- Right-forward 13° skew
- 57’-4” out-to-out & 110’-1/4” back-to-back of abutments
- IL54-3838 PPC Beams
- Open integral abutments on 14” metal shell piles
PROJECT CHALLENGES
During construction, the contractor encountered an abandoned underground 120″ diameter watermain. This required expedited redesign of abutments, approach pile bents and pile spacing to accomodate the large obstruction.
