PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Delta provided engineering design services for sidewalks and ADA ramps at over 150 quadrant locations in Henry and Rock Island counties. Design included preparation of final plans, quantities, time estimates and specifications. Work was performed under Delta’s Phase I/II Various Projects contract.
The scope was split into three contracts with the following towns included: Andalusia, Andover, Alpha, Bishop Hill, Cambridge, Coal Valley, Edington, Milan, Osco, Reynolds, and Woodhull.
Final PS&E deliverables included:
- Summary and schedule of quantities
- Horizontal and vertical control plans
- ADA and sidewalk ramp details
- Pavement elevation plans
- Incorporation of intersection signal plans prepared by IDOT
The project offered many challenges due to historic sites constraints, poor existing condition and close proximity of adjacent features. Delta provided additional quadrant specific design including:
- Retaining wall for building entrance ramp
- Drainage
- Pipe culvert replacement and extension
PROJECT CHALLENGES
This project offered many challenges due to the historical site constraints, poor existing conditions, and close proximity of utilities and street fixtures. Delta’s team designed minimized ROW takes and were able to adjust or relocate utilities as needed. This included such design details as sidewalks at a new alignment and creating gradual transitions to facilities within the ROW.
