ROCK RIVER SHARED-USE PATH

LIGHTING DESIGN

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Delta provided electrical engineering services for shared-use pathway lighting in the City of Dixon.

The City of Dixon partnered with IDOT to repurpose an old railway line as a new pedestrian shared-use path running along, and across, Rock River.  The following designed sections total 2.51 miles and connect various adjacent spaces:

  1. The River Bridge (1,500’)
  2. Dixon High school connection path (845’)
  3. Baseball diamond path (1,725’)
  4. Boardwalk (1,000’)
  5. River path with pavilion (3,580’)
  6. Roadway (3,600’)
  7. Palmyra Street paths (2,850’)
  8. River Street path (2,300’)

Four LED light fixtures were selected for style and location-based performance:

  • Type A: 12’ pole top mount (green, fluted) with Victorian style refractive globe
  • Type B: 12” pavilion surface mount canopy
  • Type C: 6” underside pier, surface mount (aluminum) with color change
  • Type D: 12’ pole mount (black, round) with reduced glare

Types A & C are used on and under the bridge, whereas Type D is exclusively used for pathway lighting.

Lighting design tasks included photometric analysis, voltage drop calculations, and fixture selections which are summarized in a lighting report. Design utilized a new, base mounted lighting controller (240V) with schematics. It also included typical electrical infrastructure with underground conduits, wiring, junction boxes, and handholes.
